Dan Chaplik has been the superintendent of the Sultan School District since 2007 after previously serving as the superintendent of the Republic School District in eastern Washington. He resides in Sultan with Vickie, his wife of 24 years, and their two sons, Brayden and Keaton, who both attend Sultan Schools.
Born and raised in the state of Washington, Superintendent Chaplik attended Maple Lawn Elementary School, Sumner Jr. High School, and Sumner High School where he graduated in 1983. Following graduation from high school, he spent 8 years as a commercial fisherman in southeast Alaska and the Bering Sea, fishing for various species of salmon on gillnetters and purse seiners. Longline fishing for halibut in the Gulf of Alaska was something he also did during that time. In the offseason, he took classes at Skagit Valley Community College and Western Washington University.
In 1987, he earned an Associate Degree from Skagit Valley College and in 1989, he earned a bachelor’s degree from Western Washington University. After stepping away from school for two years, the pull of wanting to give back led him to enroll in a master's degree program at Whitworth College in 1992. Upon graduating from Whitworth College, he began his teaching career where he taught at the elementary and middle school levels.
After finishing his administrative credential at Western Washington University, Superintendent Chaplik entered school administration in 2000 as the principal of Tonasket Elementary School. In 2005, while working on his superintendent credential, he was named superintendent of the Republic School District where he served for two years. Upon completion of his superintendent coursework at Washington State University, he and his family relocated to Sultan.
Professionally, Dan is a member of the Washington Association of School Administrators and is a current board member of Workforce Solutions Snohomish. He has also been a member of Kiwanis and the Lions Club. In his personal life, Dan enjoys spending time with his family and good friends. He also enjoys camping, gardening, staying fit and remaining active.
